This month, another celebrity chef was given the United Kingdom's Kitchen Crumpet Award in association with Kitchen Devils. This honor is bestowed via popular vote, and determines who the public feels is the "most gorgeous food hero whether on screen or off" according to the Kitchen Crumpet Awards website.
And the award goes to: Chef Gizzi Erskine, host of the TV cooking show "Cook Yourself Thin." In a press interview following the award presentation, she mentioned she was quite surprised to be receiving it, since she surpassed such recognizable names as Nigella Lawson, Gordon Ramsey, and Jean-Christophe Novelli.
Erskine may be an unfamiliar name to some due to her sudden and recent rise to stardom. However, her unique personal style is one that will leave a lasting mark to viewers. Marketers have touted her as "the rebel child" of the cooking industry. Before pursuing a cooking career, Erskine formerly worked in a piercing studio at the age of 16 after dropping out of high school. But this rebel-punk edge is a niche previously unfilled by the celebrity chef world, and is drawing a whole new crowd of culinary fans.
So get ready to see more from 2009's glamorous Kitchen Crumpet Award winner in the years to come.
