Annual Mediterranean Diet Recipe Contest Aims To Promote Healthy Lifestyles

Posted by on May 5

Mediterranean food lovers at The Oldways Table have officially named the month of May as "Mediterranean Month."  To celebrate, they've teamed up with the MFA (Mediterranean Foods Alliance) by hosting a recipe contest.

Starting now through May 31st, any and all chefs who have a delicious Mediterranean recipe in their repertoire can submit it to the 2nd Annual Mediterranean Diet Recipe Contest. The only requirement is that the recipe must include at least two foods from the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid.

The MFA's reasoning behind the recipe contest is to highlight the health benefits of this culturally and nutritionally rich diet. According to the Oldways Table website, "scientific studies consistently report that the healthy Mediterranean Diet and its lifestyle practices reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Plus, there is compelling evidence that omega-3s, found in a number of Mediterranean Diet foods, can boost the health and brainpower of both mothers and infants."

The grand prize winner of the recipe contest will receive a generous supply of MFA food products. Semi-finalists will receive smaller prizes including MFA product samples and autographed Mediterranean recipe books.
