Here's an easy dessert that involves apples (which are likely to be on sale at your supermarket right about now,) about half a loaf of bread, and common spices. It's quick, easy, and very low-cost. Plus, you'll love that your whole family is going to love it the second they smell cinnamon apples baking in your slow cooker.
The only thing you'll need to plan on is the time it'll take to peel, core, and chop all those apples. With a little help in the kitchen, though, it'll take no time at all, and you'll be done with your dessert prep in a matter of minutes.
Ingredients:
- 3 lbs. cooking apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
- 10 slices of bread, cubed (about 4 cups)
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
Directions:
Place apples in the bottom of slow cooker. Toss together the remaining ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. Place the bread mixture on top of apples. Cover and cook on a low setting for 2 to 4 hours. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
