For twenty-seven years, the Aspen Food & Wine Classic has never ceased to amaze its attendees. Surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Aspen's festival attracts celebrity chefs, restaurateurs, and everyday food/wine enthusiasts. The Grand Tasting Pavilion alone features over 300 luxury wines that are available for sampling.
This year, several household-name celebrity chefs will be hosting the main events:
Chefs Mario Battali and Nancy Silverton will conduct a seminar of all things mozzarella. They both recently joined forces with Joseph Bastianich to open Osteria Mozza, a pizzeria in Los Angeles featuring a center bar that serves fresh mozzarella cheese "every day, all day."
Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons from TV's "Top Chef" will host a presentation as well, sharing some secret cooking tips and offering helpful suggestions for the kitchen. After the presentation, Chefs Stephanie Izard and Hosea Rosenberg (the winners of season 4 and 5 of the series, respectively) will battle it out in a live cooking challenge: the Classic Quickfire.
Additionally, Chefs Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay will be on hand to talk about their newest books, "Giada's Kitchen: New Italian Favorites" and Flay's "Burgers, Fries & Shakes." They will also showcase their culinary techniques first-hand with a demonstration or two.
A small percentage of the proceeds from Aspen's Food & Wine Classic will go to benefit the Wholesome Wave Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports national, sustainable agriculture as well as local farming initiatives.
The event is scheduled for June 19-21, 2009.
