This smoothie maker not only blends, but the blades can crush ice. The forty-eight-ounce glass jar has room to make enough to serve up to four people per batch. The device is equipped with an integrated stir stick which helps you force any unruly pieces down into the blades, eliminate air pockets, and keep ingredients from gumming up when you're blending or dispensing. Back to Basics carries a ready made line of mixes to make eight ounce smoothies.
Continuous mix-and-serve is supposed to be possible, but the machine must be rested for five minutes after every three minutes of use. The dispenser valve is said to eliminate spills, but this is the area where people have had the most difficulty with the machine. The spout leaks and breaks frequently. There are six individual parts to clean and reassemble on the dispenser alone for this unit. They must all be washed by hand. This won't be bad if you wash immediately after use. I see a lot of places where this device is advertised as dishwasher safe, but the manual repeatedly advises against it. Only the jar is truly dishwasher safe. Even with all of this, people who like the smoothie maker say it works magic on ice and frozen fruits.
