Black & Decker Spacemaker Coffeemaker The Spacemaker line of appliances from Black & Decker are meant to solve the problem of too little counter space by mounting under your cabinets. This presents some unique design and function challenges that have been addressed to varying degrees of success, depending on the appliance.

This model coffeemaker has the features and looks of most 12-cup drip units you might find on any kitchen counter, except for the mounting location. Of course, all controls are accessed from the front, and the unit has a separate water reservoir that is removed for filling rather than using the carafe and simply pouring it in. The carafe fits snugly into the unit, which does offer the usual hotplate-style warmer. There is also a "sneak-a-cup" feature for grabbing a mug of joe while still brewing. With a programmable timer and digital clock, this would seem to offer all the features one would desire in a coffeemaking appliance.

Unfortunately, the design and function challenges mentioned previously have not been met with great success, at least for this model of coffeemaker. The negative reviews seem to outnumber the positive ones, with complaints ranging from under-cabinet mounting headaches to coffee leaking all over the counter. With what sounds like a short life expectancy, an unreliable brewing timer, and a host of other complaints, better to move on to the newer model or a different one entirely.
