Does the old adage hold true for coffee grinders- if you've seen one conical burr grinder, you've seen them all?
Well, it's hard to say. There are subtle differences- the Breville Conical Burr Grinder has a variable timer with 10 to 30 seconds of grind time while the Capresso Burr Grinder's timer ranges from 10 to 60 seconds. Does this mean you'd have to push the button more on the Breville?
The Breville bean hopper holds a 1/2 pound- or 8 ounces- of coffee beans, while the Capresso hold 8.5 ounces. Does that additional .5 ounces make a difference in the long run? Does it mean overall less wear and tear on your appliance since theoretically you'll need to grind the beans fewer times?
Does it matter that the Breville Conical Burr Grinder measures 5 1/4 by 7 by 11 1/4 while the Capresso one measures 7 2/3 by 5 2/5 by 10 4/5 inches?
The important factor is that both brands offer a range of settings from ultra-fine (perfect for brewing Turkish coffee) to coarse (ideal for percolators). They both use metal conical burrs which preserves more of the coffees natural flavor than blade drivers because of the slower nature of grinding with metal conical burrs.
All in all, these two leading brands of coffee grinders share a lot of common ground. And it's the grounds that really matter.
