Easy Open Faced Sandwich Recipe

italianburgersWho doesn’t love a good burger? Sometimes it’s a nice change to switch them up a little bit. This is an inexpensive way to serve an old favorite with a little flash. Sprinkle each burger with a little basil if you want to give it a more Italian flavor. Also, you can optionally add a pinch of garlic powder, onion powder, and/or black pepper while you’re shaping the ground meat into patties. If you're not sure how much to add to taste, just remember less is more where garlic is concerned.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 1 C pasta sauce with mushrooms
  • 1 C mozzarella cheese, shredded

Directions:

Allow the broiler to preheat. Shape the beef into four equally-sized patties. Place the patties on an unheated broiler pan. Broil 4 inches from heat for 5 minutes. Turn over and broil an additional 5 minutes, or until cooked to your liking. Remove the patties, wipe down the broiler pan, and lay the buns open-side-up on the pan. Broil 2 minutes or until lightly toasted.

In a saucepan, heat the pasta sauce over medium heat for 5 minutes or until bubbly. Place the burgers on each of the toasted buns. Spoon the sauce over all four patties. Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the patties. Return the burger to the broiler for 1 minute or until the cheese has melted. Makes 4 servings.
