Calphalon Commercial Hard-AnodizedThis is a good, solid cookware set has all the basics any cook needs. I use the 2-1/2-quart saucepan the most. And it's nice to have all three skillets at hand (8-, 10-, and 12-inch open sizes). Add the 3- and 7-quart casseroles and you're pretty much set for any cooking task. (The one additional item I would buy that this set lacks is a large stockpot.)

I have owned several other Calphalon hard-anodized pieces in the past. Some have served me well in the kitchen. They are sturdy, the heat distributes well, and the handles stay cool. But I have destroyed a couple pieces through my own negligence. You have to wash your Calphalon cookware by hand. And although they say you can use metal utensils, don't. It can take the anodized coating right off.

Also be aware that there is a difference between Calphalon and Calphalon One, the premier line. As I understand it, Calphalon One is made here in the USA, Ohio I think. Calphalon is made in China and the quality is not comparable. It's not always bad. But it's not consistent. I think they discontinued making the Calphalon and now only produce Calphalon One Infused Anodized Cookware. (Though the old Calphalon is still covered by a lifetime warranty.) That said, you can get the old Calphalon sets for a steal. Just be aware that you're gambling on quality.

The good news is that Calphalon's customer-service is top-notch and they take that lifetime warranty seriously. So if you do receive a pan of lesser quality, you'll likely have it remedied with quick and courteous service.
