caribbean-week-new-york-june-8-12Next week marks the annual "Caribbean Week in New York" for Manhattan, boasting a week-long schedule of events centralizing around island food, drink, and entertainment.

A main highlight of the event will be the Celebrity Chef presentations during Thursday's "Caribbean Travel and Culture Fair." The chefs are to be flown in from several of the region's most accredited restaurants, performing cooking demonstrations throughout New York City.

Two restaurateurs have already been confirmed for the event thus far. Chef Maarteen Smeets will give a cooking presentation on June 9. He is the executive chef of Radisson's Sunset Grille Restaurant in Aruba. Additionally, Chef James Murphy will be giving a presentation on June 11 about cooking and culture based on his experience in the industry. Murphy is credited for assisting the island of Antigua and Barbuda's tourism department in promoting their national cuisine. Both chefs will present at Macy's Herald Square.

Another highlight of the week will be the event "Caribbean Treats: Food, Rum & Rhythm" scheduled to be at the Manhattan Center on the evening of June 11. Guests will be able to sample several of the region's award-winning rums and cocktails, bid on extravagant vacations during a silent auction, view additional cooking demonstrations, and listen to live music for the duration of the event.

The "Caribbean Week in New York" will be held June 8-12. A full list of the week's activities can be found on the Hospitality Jamaica website.
