top chef just desserts castingAs Bravo executives have been paying close attention to previous seasons of "Top Chef," they've noticed a common trend:  Most cheftestants have a familiar weak spot when it comes to making desserts.

Bravo's VP General Manager Frances Berwick said, "Their Achilles heel is usually the desserts. As this has gone on, we’ve been thinking that it would be fun to do a ‘Top Chef’ with experienced pastry chefs. We’ve had a few pastry chefs on ‘Top Chef’ but they haven’t gone too far. It’s just a different skill.”

So in 2010, be on the lookout for a new spinoff series titled "Top Chef: Just Desserts." The format of the show is expected to be the same, with quickfire challenges, guest judges, and that oh-so-familiar feeling of suspense in the elimination room.

Between Food Network and TLC, however, cable television is already experiencing a glut of pastry-chef programs such as "Cake Boss," "Ace of Cakes," and "Food Network Challenge," to name a few. Berwick is aware of this phenomenon, and promises that "Top Chef: Just Desserts" will stand out from the crowd.

Casting for the new show begins this week, so visit the Bravo casting website if  you're interested in applying or know someone who'd be good at it. Currently, no host has been named for the show, but that's expected to be revealed in a few weeks.
