Calphalon bakeware is amongst the best non-stick bakeware available. And this bakeware set is no exception. These three bakeware items are very versatile, too. You have a baking sheet, a casserole/roast dish, and a rack that you can use to grill fish, chicken, steaks, etc. (That rack could double as a cooling rack for cookies, too.)

The bakeware is tiny. It truly is toaster-oven sized. When I hold the little cookie sheet in my hands I feel like a giant. The quality is so-so. It feels a little flimsy. But I guess I expect less from a compact bakeware set than I would from a full-sized and full-featured set for my conventional oven.

The dark nonstick finish is problematic. A lot of people complain that it flakes right off. I haven't experienced that, but I haven't scrubbed them or used metal utensils, etc. My main issue is the color of the finish. Dark-colored bakeware usually leads to over-browned food. And that leads to pans with crusted-on food that are difficult to clean. So I only use light-to-medium colored bakeware anymore.

Especially those sets with a lot of items. I'm convinced that you get better cookware by selecting each piece individually, based on its own merits and your unique needs. I'm not a one-size-fits-all sort of gal -- some may even call me high-maintenance when it comes to cookware.)

This set is average. The cookie sheets are fine, although they are kind of light. I thought they would be heavier since they are made of "extra heavy" gauge steel. The cake pans are nice. The pizza sheet is useless to me since I prefer to simply use my pizza stone. Yes, I'm especially high-maintenance when it comes to my pizza. And, honestly, this is hardly a 9-piece set. They count each of the four measuring cups as a piece. And the measuring cups are so-so, too. Nothing to rave about.

I have seen this set priced at well over $100. I have seen it advertised for $50. And I have even seen it as low as $25. Now, at that lower price this set would be worth purchasing, just for the cake pans and baking sheets alone.

I've never had much luck with steel baking sheets and pans. I always end up tossing them out within six months. Next time I buy a set of steel, I'll be sure to use parchment paper to keep my cookie sheets nice and clean.

Let's start there. Many people get professional results using aluminum. They are sturdy but lightweight and, for the most part, provide an even temperature distribution. But I find them difficult to clean. It may be me -- maybe I'm not greasing them well enough. My friend who is an awesome baker tells me that she only bakes on aluminum. No fancy nonstick or insulated sheets. Jut heavy aluminum. The trick: parchment paper.

This three-piece set is a great deal and the cake pan and baking sheet are two great pieces. They are covered by a lifetime warranty, too?-that always communicates a high level of quality to me. It's a particularly nice set for a mall kitchen or the person who only bakes occasionally and doesn't need to invest in a lot of different pieces.

And I love the lid. It fits both pieces. And it makes it easy to transport baked goods as well as keep your leftovers fresh. What a cool little extra!
