As a frequent vegetable eater, I appreciate that option for preparing a healthier version of my meals. From the date of their launch, Anolon has sought to marry hard anodized aluminum with nonstick. They are an industry leader in gourmet cookware, tools and accessories.

You have a nice-sized 10-by-15-inch cookie pan, a rectangular cake pan and two 9-inch round cake pans (so you have the flexibility to make several types of cakes). And I would use this rectangular cake pan for lasagna - it's the perfect depth and size.

Oh, and you get a 10-by-15-inch cooling rack?-that's a nice extra to get in a set like this.

I am becoming a big fan of Anolon. It's heavyweight carbon steel so I know these pieces won't warp. The nonstick surface makes cooking and cleaning up a breeze. And the best part about this set is the extra wide rims and handles on all the pieces. You can hold the dishes without sticking your dirty potholders into your freshly baked food. And the handles are coated with easy-to-grip silicone, lessening your chances of dumping a fresh-baked bath of brownies on the kitchen floor. (Oh, the horror of sullied brownies on the kitchen floor!)

I love the light grey color of the pans, too. I tend to burn things so I avoid the darker-finish pans.

If I keep finding such great deals on this brand, I'll be replacing all my non-Anolon bakeware with Anolon soon. It will be a full-on Anolon invasion - and I will serve my Anolon warlords happily, baking batch after batch of fine baked goods to win their favor.

In addition to a full spectrum of kitchen prep knives, Anolon includes a set of six stainless steel steak knives, a pair of forged steel kitchen shears, a sharpening steel, and a high quality hardwood knife block with one extra slot, just in case.

The knife assortment includes an 8" Chef's Knife, 8" Hollow Ground Slicer, 8" Bread Knife, 7" Santoku, 5" Serrated Utility Knife, and 3.5" Paring Knife. Out of that lineup, the only one that seems unnecessary is the utility knife. That's an odd in-between style useful for cutting sandwiches, and the more I think about it the more it actually does make sense to have a serrated knife able to cut through hard crusted bread, cheese, meat, tomatoes and lettuce without crushing the entire structure of the meal.

The Chef's Knife and Santoku are by no means duplicate knives. The Chef's knife is built of thicker steel and able to tackle chores that might damage the edge of the graton style Santoku; the Santoku excels at slicing vegetables thinly and without scattering the pieces all over the kitchen. It's not a perfect solution to the slices that crawl up the side of the blade and roll away, but it helps.

The wrap around Santoprene handles are comfortable and durable, with a rubberized nonslip grip that users enjoy. The steel chosen for this set is highly stain resistant, but not stain proof--handwashing is recommended. The edge holding potential of this alloy isn't exceptional--it's easy to sharpen, but needs frequent touch up. As with many knives born of less than exotic steel, honing after every use is recommended.
