dc food fight 09Celebrity chefs and critics gathered at DC Central Kitchen for their annual fundraiser, "Capital Food Fight," an event which featured a gamut of all things related to culinary entertainment with demos and samples galore.

A "Top Chef"-style cooking competition featured former cheftestants Bryan Voltaggio and Mike Isabella along with D.C. local chefs Tracy O’Grady, Michael Mina, and Barton Seaver who was last year's winner. This year, the Bourbon Steak chef Michael Mina came out victorious with his beef dish after three live competition rounds. The secret ingredient was coquitos, or edible baby coconuts.

Celebs Ted Allen, Carla Hall, Eric Ripert, and Jonathan Umbel were the guest judges for the cook-off, while hosts Jose Andres and Anthony Bourdain used their banter to entertain the audience throughout the event.

Over sixty D.C. restaurants were on hand to serve samples of their signature dishes to guests. Kora served up sausage with bean puree, Westend Bistro offered foie and duck over a toffee brittle, and PS 7 created a cocktail of vodka cider with a cinnamon sugar rim. Delicious!

And the best news of all:  DC Central Kitchen raised more funds this year than ever before. According to the official website, "nearly $1,000,000 was raised for efforts to combat hunger and create opportunity."
