Chef Rocco DiSpirito is still working on his newest cookbook, set to tentatively release next March. It's the most "collaborative" cookbook he's ever written -- and in this case, that means he's bouncing around his recipe ideas amongst his fans via Facebook and Twitter.
It's not an odd thing for celebrities to use technology to their advantage, especially when it comes to wall posts and Tweets. Connecting with one's audience and testing for successful marketability is becoming a lot easier using these tools. And according to current trends, Rocco's heading in a profitably delicious direction.
His new cookbook, which is still untitled as of today, will focus on reinventing America's favorite "downfall dishes" as he puts it. Meals like fried chicken, enchiladas, and greasy hamburgers are incredibly detrimental to a person's health, but are equally satisfying to the taste buds and have always ranked high on most "comfort food" lists.
Rocco used feedback from his Web followers to help determine what recipes they'd like to see reinvented. A large population seemed to favor pork dishes, and others said they'd like to hear how he would make healthier fried chicken. His response? Use skinless meat, poach to cook instead of fry, then coat lightly in a low-fat breading mixture, and finally flash-fry the meat in grapeseed oil.
For other comfort-food makeovers such as a low-fat beef & turkey burger or an updated beef Wellington, you'll just have to wait until Rocco's cookbook hits the shelves on March 2, 2010.
