Cuisinart Brew Central Coffee Maker Oh, look. It's another black and brushed stainless steel kitchen appliance. How nice. I'm not sure what is retro about the Cuisinart DCC-1200's appearance. The boxiness, maybe? Certainly not the color. Brushed stainless steel is very modern. All the newest kitchens come with these gleaming, silvery fingerprint attractors.

Not that stainless steel isn't attractive. I like shiny, sparkling things. But I just don't get the recent trend toward the sleek and sterile, the futuristic and square. I want my kitchen to be warm and inviting, a comfortable gathering spot for friends and family, and silver just isn't a warming color.

But as a machine, there's nothing wrong with the Cuisinart 12-Cup Coffeemaker. It comes with a setting for wake-up coffee, which I think would be a prerequisite for any dignified caffeine addict. It has brew-pause so you can poor a cup of joe without waiting for the whole pot to brew. It also comes with a three-year warranty against defects, so you've got some protection going in.

It has a Gold Tone filter so there's no wasting money or resources on paper filters. There's a charcoal water filter, too. So, you'll have clean water and subsequently clean coffee. But there is one more thing you should know about the Cuisinart Coffeemaker- 12-cup brew means the machine has the capacity to brew 12 5-ounce cups of coffee. I don't know anyone who would considers a 5-ounce serving a cup of coffee, do you?

Compare this with the Cuisinart Grind & Brew Coffeemaker.
