A very similar product to the Rival SCVI600B-SS Crock-Pot 6-Quart Premium VersaWare Slow Cooker, the Cuisinart version is a bit smaller in size, but surpasses in extras it offers. All crock pots allow the home chef to prepare one pot meals, desserts, and side dishes. The PSC-400 does so via an LCD display with clearly labeled touchpad control. An included cooking rack allows you to use it in conjunction with ramekins or bakeware. The base has nonslip rubber feet and the unit carries a limited three year warranty. A spiral-bound recipe book of seventy gourmet dishes is helpful to keep meals fresh, new. The retractable cord for convenient storage is one of the little touches that sets this cooker apart.
It offers a twenty four hour programmable cook time, digital countdown timer, three cook modes and automatically shifts to keep warm function when cooking is complete. Cool-touch chrome-plated handles keep your hands safe, while a wrap around heating element ensures even cooking. The ceramic cookpot is removable for serving, dishwasher safe (as is the lid), and the unit's exterior is easy wipe stainless steel.
People who have used either model are disappointed that they don't have a delayed start option for cooking, but while less convenient, this is probably an unmentioned safety feature. Many foods are unsafe when left to sit for long periods at room temperature or while thawing. The lid may rattle with the steam from some foods, but this seems a minor issue considering all the benefits of this slow cooker.
