Former Food Network host Juan-Carlos Cruz, a 48-year-old cookbook author known for such shows as "Weighing In" and "Calorie Commando," was arrested on Thursday in Santa Monica, California, for allegedly hiring homeless people to perform acts of murder. He is being held on $5 million bail with an arraignment expected on Monday.
Last week, Santa Monica police officers working closely with the city's Homeless Liaison Program were contacted by several homeless persons, all claiming to have been approached by Chef Cruz.
Fortunately, all homeless individuals involved have agreed to work closely with the Santa Monica police department in the investigation. They gave the police specific dates, times, and locations of potential murder sites, as well as plans for payment, which they say were given to them by Cruz. Payment plans for the service were also revealed.
Local California news coverage is also alleging that Cruz's plans may have led to a disturbing target: his own wife. So far, police have declined to comment on the subject.
