Hawaiian Swiss Sweet Bread

Cheesy Garlic Bread w/ Onions Recipe

Posted by

This bread will be the hit of your Christmas dinner.  It's simple, easy to make, and will agree with everyone's taste buds.  The onion may be left out if you prefer, or can be substituted with a dash or two of mild onion powder.  If you are using salted butter, decrease the salt amount by 1/4 teaspoon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (1 lb.) loaf Hawaiian sweet bread
  • 1 (8 oz.) block Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 C unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 slices red onion, chopped

Directions:

Preheat the oven temperature to 350 degrees. Slice the bread at 1 inch intervals to within 2 inches from the bottom of the loaf. Cut the Swiss cheese in 1/2 inch slices and insert into the cuts in the bread loaf. Place the butter into a small bowl. Stir in the garlic and salt. Add the onion and mix until well-coated with the butter mixture. Spoon the butter mixture over the top of the bread, allowing it to run down the sides. Wrap the bread tightly in heavy duty aluminum foil. Bake 25 minutes or until the cheese has melted completely. Makes 12 servings.
