Homemade Brown Turkey Gravy

Thanksgiving Holiday Recipe

Now, you can do things the easy way and make your holiday gravy from a packet of spices at the grocery store. Or, you can put in a little bit of extra effort and make it from real turkey. Again, to me, things just taste better when they're the real thing. Try this brown turkey gravy for your next Thanksgiving potluck. If you decide to make the switch, I'm pretty sure you'll agree, too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 6 ounces ground turkey
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Directions:

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat.  Add the onion and cook for one minute.  Now add the ground turkey and cook for 10 to 15 minutes or until it is very browned and dry.

Move the turkey mixture to a large saucepan.  Add in the poultry season and broth; let simmer for 30 minutes over medium heat.  Pour the mixture into a strainer and remove the cooked turkey.

In a small bowl combine the flour and water until smooth; add the mixture to broth and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally for about 30 to 45 minutes.
