J.A. Philips head machine screws hold the blades in place and are likely to be the only part you might wear out. They will last much longer if you get a good quality screwdriver to fit them--avoid the two dollar bargain bin styles and avoid trouble. The steel bands of the mezzaluna's handle form gaps where food can easily lodge out of sight, so give the knife a good inspection before calling it clean.
