James Beard Foundation 2010 Award Winners Announced

The long-awaited results of the James Beard Foundation awards were announced on May 3 at the JBF Awards Gala in New York City. Hosts Lidia Mattichio Bastianich, Alton Brown, and Wolfgang Puck were on hand to present nominees with top recognition in restaurant service, food media, and excellence in cooking. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Tom Colicchio received the "Outstanding Chef Award" for his restaurant Craft in New York City.
  • Daniel Boulud and Joel Smillow won the "Outstanding Restaurant Award" for Daniel in New York City.
  • Nicole Plue was this year's "Outstanding Pastry Chef," practicing her expertise at Redd in Yountville, California.
  • Grant Achatz's Alinea in Chicago, Illinois received the "Outstanding Service Award."
  • John and Doug Shafer, settled in the rich wine country of Napa Valley, California, were the recipients of the "Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional Award."
  • This year's "Best New Restaurant" is Marea, launched by head chef Michael White and restaurateur┬áChris Cannon in New York City.
  • And the 2010 "Rising Star Chef of the Year Award" went to Timothy Hollingsworth from The French Laundry in Yountville, California.
