The James Beard Foundation announced yesterday that for the first time in the history of the prestigious culinary awards ceremony, the events will be broadcast live over the Internet.

"The web stream, along with coverage on our blog and Twitter page, will make it possible for those unable to attend the live program in New York City to enjoy this remarkable event," said James Beard Foundation President Susan Ungaro. "Now, fans all over the country will be able to celebrate with the nominees and winners -- in real time -- while dining out at their favorite restaurants or hosting viewing parties of their own."

In addition to a live webcast, a live "blog-cast" will also complement the event. A large team of writers has been amassed to blog and Tweet about the events as they unfold. This team includes Chris Stang and Andrew Steinthal of Immaculate Infatuation, Food & Wine associate wine editor Megan Krigbaum, Fiona Tang and Amy Cao of Foodspotting, Edible Brooklyn photographer Michael Harlan Turkell, and Chris and Jennifer McBride of Savory Cities.

The Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception will be hosted by celebrity chef/restaurateur and Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio, Chinese fusion chef and host of PBS's Simply Ming Ming Tsai, and award-winning gourmet chef Traci Des Jardins, currently participating in this year's Top Chef Masters and known for her French-influenced Californian cuisine.

Those interested in watching the awards ceremony can do so via www.jamesbeard.org/awardslive on Monday, May 9, 2011.
