Cookbook author and editor Judith Jones has worked with some of the biggest culinary names in the industry: Julia Child, John Updike, James Beard... and the list goes on and on. Her career started at Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. by translating French works into English. She is now the Senior Editor & Vice President of the company.
Jones' most recent cookbook, "The Pleasures of Cooking for One," is set to hit stores next week, but is now available for pre-order on Amazon. In it, she creates a straightforward and balanced approach to cooking for the single lifestyle, emphasizing that it doesn't have to be bland, boring, and repetitious. Cooking for one presents an opportunity for freedom of expression, trial-and-error, and experimentation. According to the book, "you can feel free to fail, since a meal for one doesn’t have to be perfect."
Re-inventing leftover meals is a refreshing twist to "Cooking for One." Beef bourguignon becomes a ragu, wild rice contributes to both pilaf and pancakes, and last night's red snapper tops a summer salad.
The book is also chock-full of other kitchen shortcuts for stocking a pantry and planning meals throughout the week. Jones even includes a challenge from James Beard for novice crepe chefs.
"The Pleasures of Cooking for One" will be officially released on September 29, 2009.
