KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials TeaFor me there is something very comforting in the whistle of a tea kettle. Being an absent minded sort, I'll put the water on to boil and then wander off until the kettle hollers at me from the kitchen- HEY YOU, TIME FOR TEA!

This kettle certainly takes the prize for the longest name. I don't know about "gourmet", but a good tea kettle is definitely an "essential" thing to have in the kitchen. Featuring the brushed stainless finish so popular today, this is a large kettle so expect it to be rather heavy when filled with the full two quarts. It's good to see that KitchenAid fitted this with a substantial handle on top for hefting about. The whistle on the spout is attached and swings out of the way when pouring by a finger tip lever.

Comfortable to carry, easy to pour, how about filling? Personally, I like to fill my kettle by just holding the spout under the tap, but that doesn't work so well here due to the damper inside the mouth of the spout. I believe it's meant to keep vigorously boiling water from bubbling out onto the stove, which is a helpful addition I'll admit. You'll have to pull off the snug fitting lid for filling. No big deal, just an extra step in the process.

Some folks have complained about the handle becoming uncomfortably hot when using, while others claim the problem doesn't occur if using on an burner smaller than the kettle, rather than larger. Makes sense to me.

KitchenAid also makes tea kettles in porcelain colors.
