Everyone knows you're supposed to eat with kitchen tableware and cutlery -- eat with, not eat. Seems a self-described "obsessed" woman in the Netherlands had to learn that the hard way.
52-year-old Margaret Daalman doesn't know why she did, but she felt compelled to eat her silverware instead of her dinner. Unsurprisingly, she ended up having to visit the doctors, complaining of intense stomach pains. Consequently, the doctors must have received the surprise of their lives when they discovered several forks and spoons inside her stomach!
Daalman confessed to having ingested a total of seventy-eight pieces of silverware. She said she just ate forks and spoons, but never knives. "I don't know why, but I felt an urge to eat the silverware," Daalman told her doctors. "I could not help myself."
Her team of doctors responded with medical attention and therapeutic mental care. "She seems to have been suffering from some sort of obsession, and every time she sat down for a meal she would ignore the food and eat the cutlery," one doctor revealed.
The good news is that after undergoing surgery to have the cutlery removed, as well as treatment for her "borderline personality disorder," Daalman has made a full recovery.
The X-ray photo of Daalman's stomach, pictured above, was actually taken over 30 years ago; however, a Dutch doctor submitted the story to the press just this week after replying to a request to send in bizarre medical stories.
