Oster 5712 2-Tier 6.1-Quart Electric I got this as a gift and I wasn't too enthusiastic. "Yay, a steamer, Gee, uh, thanks. I love, um, steamed things." My well-meaning friend knew I had resolved to eat healthier and steaming is definitely a very healthy way to prepare food.

This appliance could easily have become one of many well-intended health and exercise items that fell quickly into disuse (like the dusty Tae Bo video tapes in my basement.) But that's not how it happened.

I am now a full-fledged steaming fanatic. This thing is fantastic-- who knew a steamer could be so versatile? It's an easy way to prepare all kinds of food. You can place your food in it, set the timer, and walk away with no chance of burning or overcooking.

I have a friend who claims she can make nearly every meal she eats with this food steamer. Not just vegetables but meat, vegetables, wontons, and ravioli. I haven't tried ravioli but I have steamed wontons which is almost the same thing. I've also used the deep dish (included) to cook other grains and reheat soup

What else? Hard-boiled eggs. (It even comes with an egg holder.) Shrimp. Divine silky-textured scallops. You can make an entire meal of chicken, rice, and veggies.

Best of all-- the easy clean up. This thing is a breeze to clean. And no more messy pots and pans.
