Padma Lakshmi, judge on Bravo's "Top Chef," has just confirmed that she is pregnant. This is her first child, and the pregnancy is being hailed as a medical miracle due to Padma's chronic illness.
Padma has long since been diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition in which the cells that make up the uterus, or endometrium, start growing in other areas of the body. A common result of this condition is infertility -- which is why Padma's pregnancy is such a cause for celebration.
She is also the co-founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America, which supports research and preventative education for the disease and is actively working to find a cure.
As of today, the baby's father has not been named, nor has the due date.
According to her physicians, she has asked that the press treat the situation delicately and "respect [her] privacy at this time."
