Panasonic Bread Maker You, too, can have your own personal Robo-baker in the form of a Panasonic SD-YD250 Automatic Bread Maker. Sounds high tech, huh? Well, it is. All you have to do is measure the ingredients and dump them in. (You may want to buy a digital kitchen scale for this important step as the cookbook that accompanies the machine measures by weight rather than volume.) Next, you must answer a few short questions to determine which of the myriad buttons you should push. Basic or rapid bake? Immediate start or timer delay? With the timer delay, how many hours do you want to wait until bake time? One hour? Two? Three? Thirteen? It's up to you.

You can choose which kind of bread you want- white, wheat, whole-grain, or French. For white or whole wheat, choose sandwich mode to have a soft crust. You can even specify light, medium, or dark crust. Push the correct button and the machine will pause and beep letting you know it's time to add dried fruits or nuts. You can even have the machine knead the dough for you without baking it, as for pizza crust. Or alternatively have the machine bake the bread without kneading it, as for...what? Zucchini bread perhaps? The only thing the machine doesn't do is slice the bread for you. But, come on, you can manage that, can't you?

Compare this with the Zojirushi Home Bakery.
