This fall, the viewer-sponsored PBS television network will be airing a new culinary travelogue series hosted by none other than Gourmet Magazine's food critic Ruth Reichl.
The show is titled "Adventures with Ruth" and follows Ruth as she visits cooking schools across the world. Her experiences at each gastronomic vacation stop reveal just how important food is to the area's local culture. It's a step in the same direction for Gourmet similar to their award-winning series "Diary of a Foodie."
"Adventures" is definitely a travel-heavy show, making it more Travel Channel and less Food Network. While it's true that each of Ruth's vacations is held in a culinary school, the emphasis of the surrounding cultures comes through loud and clear -- just not as loud as, say, Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmern.
Celebrity cameos will pop up throughout the series -- Hollywood actress Frances McDormand and "Sopranos" star Lorraine Bracco, for example.
The show is sponsored in part by American Airlines, and in fact will be featured as part of American's in-flight entertainment during the next few months.
Look for "Adventures with Ruth" to premiere October 17 on PBS.
