Celebrity chef and TV personality Rachael Ray is known for many things: programs such as "30 Minute Meals" and "Tasty Travels," her own magazine "Every Day with Rachael Ray," and even her Emmy award-winning syndicated show simply titled "Rachael Ray." She is also known (and sometimes abhorred) for her impeccably bubbly and chatty personality.
But last year, Ray was diagnosed with what can only be described as a curveball -- a benign cyst on her vocal cords. She was originally scheduled to have it removed in December of 2008, but called off those plans in order to have uninterrupted holiday celebration with her family. Instead, she concentrated on extensive vocal therapy, hoping that she would be able to avoid having surgery in the end.
It must not have been enough. Last week, reporters confirmed that Rachael Ray listened to her doctors' recommendations and underwent the non-invasive surgical procedure to have the cyst removed from her vocal cords.
According to Ray's doctors, the surgery was a success, and she is recovering well at home. Her media representative said that "the hardest part for Rachael is going to be giving her voice a rest for the next week or so."
