Sabatier ChefStar Stainless Steel KnifeAlthough available at bargain prices, this 14 piece knife block set is not a great value. It's more sensible to spend the same amount on one or possibly two very serviceable knives rather than a set of 14 that disappoints. Even if the price tempts you, consider that if you go to the dollar store you can buy these knives (or their equivalents) for a buck apiece, in the assortment you actually need.

Made in China and marketed under the Sabatier brand name, both knives and block have a poor reputation with users. Although stamped stainless steel knives can be good knives today, these are the sort that gave stamped stainless steel a bad name. The synthetic molded handles do not maintain gap free construction under heavy use; and these "high carbon stainless steel" blades are definitely not corrosion resistant, rusting even after hand washing.

The block itself shows sloppy construction and poor finish. Even though you get a lot of stuff when you buy this set--a knife block, kitchen shears, sharpening steel, chef's knife, bread knife, slicer, utility and paring knife, and six steak knives--you can certainly do better. Expect to replace it soon, if it's the best you can afford right now.
