next-food-network-star-season-5Tonight marks the debut of a cooking reality show's fifth season -- one that offers its winner a lot more than a cash prize. While grand prizes such as $100,000 or a brand-new restaurant shouldn't be downsized, they cannot compare to the winning trophy this time around: their very own weekly TV show.

And thus begins the search for "The Next Food Network Star."

Ten new finalists have been chosen from across the United States to compete in the series, hoping to join the ranks of former winners "Big Daddy" Aaron McCargo, Jr. and Guy Fieri, to name a few. Guy Fieri is arguably the show's most successful contestant, as he is now the "food dude" spokesperson for T.G.I. Friday's restaurants and the host of the Food Network's popular series "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives."

Three celebrity guests judges will evaluate the contestants: celebrity chef Bobby Flay, producer Bob Tuschman, and VP of Marketing & Brand Strategy Susie Fogelson. All three judges work for The Food Network, and will not only judge the cooking capabilities of each contestant, but will evaluate whether or not they have enough "star quality" to give the network what it needs. One contestant is eliminated at the end of each show.

And the "judging" doesn't stop there. According to the Food Network's website, there are perks for the voters, too. "Vote for which finalist you would have eliminated and ultimately, who you would like to see as Food Network's very next star. Each vote will enter you to win a Grilling Oasis brought to you by Chinet, Viking and Summer Classics." Not a bad deal at all!

"The Next Food Network Star" season 5 debuts tonight, June 7, at 9 p.m. EST.
