Today marks the series premiere of Melissa d'Arabian's new show "Ten Dollar Dinners" -- which she earned as the Season 5 winner of "The Next Food Network Star."
Previously, the network titled her new show as "Kitchen Survival Guide." But after consideration, it seems the producers wanted the name of the show to reach out to a more budget-friendly audience. And as a stay-at-home mom, Melissa was an ideal choice to bring fresh ideas to this concept.
However, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Melissa confirmed that "budget cooking" is not the sole focus of the show. She'll pack each episode with helpful shopping tips when going to the grocery store, ways to efficiently stock a pantry, and even cooking techniques to use for multiple recipes.
In her interview, she also said "that 'Ten Dollar Dinners' is not just about budget cooking. I don't want to save money and feel bad about it. I want to feel empowered. I want to impress people when I save money. I want to be able to say, "I made this dinner for $10" and I want people to say, "No way!" My promise to the viewers is: for $10, I am going to make you a great meal for a family of four. But the food has to be fantastic. It starts and ends with the food."
"Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d'Arabian" premieres Sunday, August 9, at 12:30 p.m. EST.
