According to their website, Le Cordon Bleu is "a worldwide leader in gastronomy, hospitality, and management." Since they have produced such esteemed graduates as Chefs Julia Child, Paul Bocuse, and Auguste Escoffier -- the "father of French cuisine" -- one cannot beg to differ.

Le Cordon Bleu student, chef, and author Kathleen Flinn will host a lecture filled with stories from her personal experience there -- including how she reacted to her infuriated chef mentors, dealt with her competitive classmates, and managed to overcome the language barrier.

Her 2003 publication "The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry" contains many of these same stories, and more. The subtitle "Love, Laughter and Tears in Paris at the World's Most Famous Cooking School" speaks for itself. Then again, it's no surprise that romance, passionate career goals, and Paris all centralize around the topic of food.

The event will be held at the Chicago History Museum, where Flinn will sign copies of her book following the lecture. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Culinary Historians of Chicago.
