Celebrity host Padma Lakshmi of "Top Chef" fame isn't a stranger to television, as we all know. And even before her days on the culinary reality show, she'd worked such productions as "The Ten Commandments," "The Mistress of Spices," "Boom," and "Glitter."
Now, Universal Media Studios and NBC are literally cooking up a sitcom just for her.
Padma Lakshmi is due to star in her own situation comedy series about a woman working in the culinary world. Charlie Corwin from Original Media (based at Universal) has already been named as the executive producer of the show. One possible title being discussed is "Single Serving."
Hopefully this venture from NBC will bridge the gap between cooking shows and comedy shows. This territory has been explored before -- remember Fox's "Kitchen Confidential," or even Emeril Lagasse's own show "Emeril" with attempted behind-the-scenes humor? The shows didn't last long at all. Lakshmi of course would love the chance to alter that stereotype.
Her future sitcom is additional good news this month, since Lakshmi has just received a nomination for an Emmy award for "Best Reality Competition Host" as well, along with her co-host Tom Colicchio.
