Zojirushi NS-LAC05 Micom 3-Cup Rice I'm an old-fashioned girl who likes to use tried-and-true old-fashioned methods. No need for fancy ingredient-specific cooking implements, thank you very much. Cooking rice? Give me a pot, water, and a generous shake of salt. That's all I need.

Then I bought this rice cooker. This appliance is one of the best impulse buys I have ever made. I stumbled upon it and was swayed by the hundreds of persuasive user reviews. I never realized what a difference a bonafide rice cooker would make! Now I will never go back to making rice any other way.

I eat so much more rice now-- at least three times a week. It's so convenient to use during a busy week. I set the timer/warmer to ensure that the rice is the perfect temperature when I get home from work. And this three-cup model is the perfect size. It's small enough to sit right on our counter top, and it makes the perfect amount for our small family. (Though I've made rice as a side dish for about six people with this small cooker, too.)

I use this cooker for other things, too. It makes really nice steel-cut oats on the Porridge setting. You can set it at night and wake up to a bowl of perfect porridge. I think I'm going to try my hand at sushi rice, next. I've always been hesitant to try it at home but now that I know my sushi rice will be sticky-perfect, why not?
