Originally, the Gordon Ramsay restaurant was also supported by American Soul Food Ltd., along with personal capital provided by founders Charita Jones and Katryna Thomas-Shell.  Business was booming in 2004 after being featured on "Kitchen Nightmares," so the restaurant moved to a larger location.

However, like many companies taking the brunt of a faltering economy, business slowed for Momma Cherri’s as the years passed, and the increased overhead costs of maintaining a larger facility became too much to handle. Eventually, administrators entered the situation and ordered the current staff to leave.

Now, after the Momma Cherri’s closure, only 5 of 22 "Kitchen Nightmares" restaurants remain open for business -- and quite a real nightmare it's been for Ramsay.  His company, Gordon Ramsay Holdings, reported a 87% drop in profits just last month.

But he claims no responsibility for the closure of Momma Cherri’s Soul Food Shack.  This week, one of Ramsay's press representatives confirmed, "He makes it clear on the show that, in the end, it is up to the proprietors to make the changes that will turn around their businesses.”
