Buffalo Steaks w/ Grilled Mushroom and Garlic Gravy

Read this recipe thoroughly before executing the instructions. The directions and ingredients for both the steak and the gravy are split in the order of tasks you'll need to complete.

Steak Ingredients:

  • 4 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons peanut oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 buffalo strip steaks, about 10 oz. each


Mix all the ingredients (except the steaks.) Apply mixture on all sides of the steaks and cover before putting them in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 hours to marinate.

Gravy Ingredients:

  • 2 portobello mushrooms, approx. 3 oz. each
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 2 tablespoons minced onion
  • 6 to 8 minced garlic cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 1/2 cups brown gravy

Gravy and Grilling Directions:

Apply 2 tablespoons olive oil, lemon pepper seasoning, and 1/4 teaspoon salt on the portabella mushrooms and grill for 8 to 10 minutes on direct medium heat. Take them out and cut them in small squares before putting on the side.

Take the remaining oil and saute the garlic and onions for 1 to 2 minutes, then add in the wine and reduce until gone. Add the brown gravy and prepared mushrooms and stir to mix. Stir often while simmering for 15 minutes.

Grill steaks for 8 to 12 minutes on high heat, rotating once. Serve when cooked to desired consistency.
