Celebrity Chefs and Musicians Unite For NYC Food Bank Gala

can-do-awards-dinner-nyc-food-bankTonight, the Food Bank of New York City will host its Can-Do Awards Dinner, aiming to raise $1 million to help the Food Bank fight hunger across the nation.

Celebrity chefs Mario Batali and Rachael Ray will be among the attendees helping to raise funds at the event. Just this month, Chef Batali started a foundation to help eliminate child hunger and illiteracy. Batali is also a Food Bank board member, and has served as the chairman for the Can-Do Awards Dinner for five years.

Rock legend Jon Bon Jovi will receive an honored award at this Can-Do Awards Dinner. Last year, Bon Jovi helped raise awareness for the depleted condition of the Food Bank's warehouses by going on a special inspection tour, which raised the donation supply considerably. Another well-known musician attending the event is R.E.M.'s frontman Michael Stipe, who has also become a spokesperson for the Food Bank as of late.

Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci, known from such films as Lucky Number Slevin, Road To Perdition, and The Pelican Brief, will be emceeing the event.

The Food Bank for New York City Can-Do Awards Dinner will be held tonight at Pier Sixty in Manhattan. Those interested in attending the event or learning more about it can visit the non-profit organization's website.
