first-preview-meryl-streep-julia-childThis week, Columbia Pictures released the first official preview of a culinary flick that might be the first movie based on both a book and a blog.

The movie is "Julie & Julia," starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams playing the roles of Chef Julia Child and blogger Julie Powell, respectively. The story develops around Powell's adventurous endeavor to cook her way through the book "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" written by authors Julia Child, Louisette Berthole, and Simone Beck.

Famed director Nora Ephron (known for such blockbusters as "Sleepless In Seattle," "When Harry Met Sally," and "You've Got Mail") is pouring her creative talent into this movie as the writer, director, and producer. Her screenplay adaptation will reference both Julie Powell's blog "Julie/Julia Project" as well as Julia Child's biography "My Life In France," co-written with her grandnephew Alex Prud'Homme.

This will be the first and only Hollywood feature to date celebrating the life of Chef Julia Child. Other motion pictures have honored Child's culinary tributes, such as the PBS special "America's Favorite Chef" which was part of the American Masters series. Additionally, critics are already hailing Meryl Streep's depiction of Child's character to be worthy of an Oscar nod once next year's awards season rolls around.

"Julie & Julia" is scheduled to open in theaters August 7, 2009.
