Food Network Magazine Nominated For Ellie Award

Food Network Magazine, owned by media giant Hearst Corporation, has had much success over the past two years and can still boast a circulation of over 1 million readers today. Due to its rising success, the magazine has been nominated for a general excellence Ellie award by the American Society of Magazine Editors.

This is Food Network Magazine's first nomination, occurring during the first year that the magazine has been eligible to receive it. The October, November, and December issues were submitted as award entries.

Editor-in-chef Maile Carpenter admits it's an honor to be nominated. She says that her past expertise has prepared her for this position, a job different than any other she's had. "This magazine is a joint partnership (between Hearst and Scripps Networks), so in a way I work for two companies: Hearst and Food Network. It’s not just about putting out a great new food magazine—it’s also about capturing the spirit of an existing (and powerful) brand."

She chose the magazine's fall and winter issues because "they were just packed with good food and fun holiday stories... The end of the year is prime eating season! So it was fitting that these issues were our favorites."

The other four magazines nominated for the general excellence Ellie are former winners Esquire, GQ, Wired, and The Economist. The Ellie will be awarded this week, and the National Magazine Awards will take place on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
