It's no surprise that Gail Simmons, "Top Chef" judge and host of "Top Chef: Just Desserts" celebrates her holidays with delicious baked goods, indulging the sweet tooth of every party guest that arrives at her door.

"There is no better way to bring people together than with desserts," she says.

And for last-minute party planning ideas, the New-York-based chef knows that a full-blown Christmas dinner may not necessarily be the best option. Simmons says a dessert party is "really easy" -- especially when ingredients are prepared earlier in the day.

"Make everything in advance and store it in the fridge or airtight containers. Then all you have to do is set the desserts out on pretty platters, and you're done!"

Serving a menu of just sweets may deter some guests from fully satisfying their appetites -- which is why Simmons recommends adding a fruit tray as a healthy alternative. She then adds, "Once the sugar stars flowing, I get a little dance party going to work off some calories!"
