10 Things You Need To Eat Lieberman OConnorTo those familiar with their specialties, trying to imagine a book written by Dave Lieberman and Anahad O'Connor would be just that -- purely imaginative. Lieberman is a Food Network celebrity chef, a European gourmet cuisine specialist, and a contributing editor to Saveur Magazine, while NY Times reporter O'Connor takes a strictly scientific and natural approach to his diet, favoring raw foods and whole grains. So how would these two find enough in common to write a successful cookbook together?

The answer lies in their new book filled with original articles, facts, and recipes titled, "The 10 Things You Need to Eat."  The cookbook draws from O'Connor's nutritional expertise by outlining 10 "superfoods" that are essential to the human body's overall health and well-being. Lieberman then documents his experiments with each superfood, revealing delicious recipes in each section.

The main foods covered in the book's chapters are:  tomatoes, quinoa, avocados, beets, spinach, lentils, cabbage, "super" fish, nuts, and berries. Lieberman and O'Connor say that these specific foods were chosen because they met three very important conditions, namely "scientifically supported health benefits, extremely easy to find, and so versatile that we could easily build a complete and varied repertoire of home-style, satisfying, and delicious meals around them."

Readers will find healthy, tasty recipes from the ordinary to the seemingly bizarre -- whole wheat triple-tomato pizza, sauteed sesame spinach, even chocolate avocado mousse.

"The 10 Things You Need to Eat" is 288 pages long and is published by William Morrow Cookbooks, retailing for $19.99.
