VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffle MakerIf you are a true waffle fan, stop waffling around: Get yourself a real waffle maker.

The UNO Belgian Waffler is the best waffle maker I've ever experienced. (I just love saying the word "waffler.") It makes huge waffles that are thick and crispy with deep, giant squares that hold all your syrup and butter. Just writing about it is making me want to take a waffle break.

It has all the features you'd expect from a waffler: a ready light to let you know when the waffles are ready, non-stick coating makes clean up easy. My favorite part is the deep batter moat that catches the batter overflow so you don't make a mess?a huge problem I've had with previous waffle makers.

It's even great for waffles that are not of the Belgian persuasion. Buying this waffler made me wonder what the difference is between a Belgian waffle and a non-Belgian waffle. Apparently, Belgian waffles are prepared from a yeast batter. This makes them lighter, thicker, crispier, and they have larger pockets compared to other waffle varieties. And you can recreate that experience with this machine.

If you close your eyes you can imagine yourself eating a waffle right on the street in Brussels, warmed and dusted with confectioner's sugar?right in your own kitchen. How many gadgets can do that?

One drawback: The loud ready-to-eat beep seems to irritate other people?namely, my husband?but I need the not-so-gentle reminder so I don't find it to be a problem.

Want smaller waffles? Try the Cuisinart Traditional Waffle Maker.
