Wusthof Culinar Profile Knife Block Set Wusthof is one of the "big two" German knife makers. The Culinar line shares similar blade characteristics and construction as the Classic and Grand Prix lines. The handle style and construction is what sets it apart from the others. With a contoured metal handle, one might consider it the German cousin to Global, the Japanese maker whose knives popularized metal handles.

The metal handles are where the similarities end, though. The soul of these knives is pure German. The handle shapes are virtually identical to the shapes seen on the moulded handles on the Grand Prix II line. The blades are thick and beefy, as is typical of German knives. The steel is amongst the highest quality offered by German makers, but is relatively soft, which makes for a blade less prone to chipping if subjected to extreme use.

As is typical of many "block sets", the knives selected by Wusthof aren't exactly what I'd consider to be the optimal mix of sizes and shapes. If you're in the market for a modern interpretation of classic German kitchen cutlery, the knives in the Culinar line might be just the ticket, but considering the cost associated with this set, I'd pass on the set and select and purchase individual knives instead to maximize utility and value.

Here's a smaller 7-piece block set in the Culinar style.
